Tamworth

A Staffordshire borough and market town that is large, northeast of Birmingham by (23 km) 14 miles and 103 miles (166 km) northwest of London, is Tamworth (/ˈt mwərθ/), England. In 1701, he also built the Town Hall of Tamworth and later in London founded Guy's Hospital. In 1880, a hospital was built in Tamworth and was funded by William MacGregor, one of the town's greatest benefactors, at his own expense.

Grew rapidly as it soaked up the West Midlands conurbation overspill to the southwest in the postwar years, was Tamworth. Historically divided between Staffordshire and Warwickshire, with the county boundary running through the town centre, was Tamworth. The Borough Council of Tamworth since 2004 has been controlled by Conservative, but from the 1980s early part, it was Labour-controlled.

Along with authorities of Bromsgrove, Birmingham, East Staffordshire, Cannock Chase, Redditch, Lichfield, Wyre Forest and Solihull that are neighbouring, Tamworth has formed part of the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, since 2011. Also a non-constituent member of the West Midlands Combined Authority is Tamworth. Serves the town, is Tamworth railway station located on Victoria Road.

A high- and low-level station and serves as an interchange between the West Coast Mainline and the Cross Country Route, is Tamworth Station. Birmingham Airport and East Midlands Airport are the nearest airports to Tamworth. Church of St Editha in the town centre, is the main church in Tamworth. The location of Moat House, the Church of St Editha, and Tamworth Castle that is historic, and was the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Mercia's capital, is Tamworth.

In Tamworth, is the Snowdome, the UK's first full-sized real-snow indoor ski slope, and Drayton Manor Theme Park, is only a short distance away. Besieged by parliamentarian forces during the English Civil War in 1643 was Tamworth castle. When the combined Staffordshire and Warwickshire hearth tax returns list some 320 households in total, Tamworth continued to grow and remained one of the most populous towns in the Midlands by 1670. In 1678, Thomas Guy, the Member of Parliament of the future of the town, founded Tamworth almshouses, in 1913 rebuilt.

Has six Local Nature Reserves that are designated, Kettlebrook, Hodge Lane (Amington), Warwickshire Moor, Tameside, Dosthill Park, and Broadmeadow, which in April 2013 became the nature reserve that is newest, is Tamworth. Part of the South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation trust is Tamworth. In the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham is Tamworth; on the town centre's St John Street, St John the Baptist, is the main church that is Roman Catholic, and Glascote's Sacred Heart Church, is the other Roman Catholic church. Has also fielded in recent times a number of players that are notable, including Paul Merson former Arsenal and Aston Villa midfielder and Bob Taylor West Brom legend, in the 2005-06 season for one match, was Tamworth F.C..
